Tourivia is a simple, easy game to play with your friends! Here's a quick rundown and explanation of rules and win conditions to get you started.
Starting a New Game
In the Home tab, click on the New Game button to start a new game.
You'll then choose between two game modes, Classic and Challenge and your opponent - Friends or Random.
The opponent you choose can either be from your friends list or an open invitation for a random player to accept. Invitations must be accepted within 24 hours or the game is nullified.
In Classic mode, you and your opponent take turns guessing locations for a total of 8 questions each. To begin, you are deducted 1 Energy and start by spinning the wheel and guessing the location. If the answer is correct, you can continue to keep spinning and guessing until you answer incorrectly or you've answered 8 questions perfectly. When an incorrect answer has been entered, the round ends and an invitation is sent to the opponent. The opponent then has 24 hours to accept and begin their round. If the game is not accepted within 24 hours, the game is over and the player who initiated the invitation is refunded the spent Energy.
When the opponent accepts the invitation, it is then that player's turn to spin and guess. By accepting the invitation, they are immediately deducted 1 Energy. As before, the player can spin multiple times if they continue to guess correctly. Otherwise, the round ends with an incorrect answer.
After both players have begun their rounds, the two go back and forth until both players have answered 8 total questions each. No more Energy is spent during these rounds. Between each round, players have 1 hour to select their answer or the game is forfeited and the player who failed to select their answer loses the game.
When both players have guessed a total of 8 questions each, the final score is tallied and whoever has more correct answers wins the game. In the event that both players have a tied score, Tourivia determines the winner of the game by measuring the speed of answer - whichever player answered the 8 questions faster is the winner of the game.
In Challenge Mode, you can face off against 7 other players for a larger tournament style game! Similar to Classic, the aim of the game is to guess as many correct answers out of 8 spins. The difference, however, is Challenge Mode is more rapid-fire than Classic Mode. Players spin the wheel and immediately guess 8 questions in a row, regardless if they are answered correctly or not. After all 8 players have locked their answers, the player with the most correct answers or answered a tied score fastest wins the game.
In Challenge Mode, the differentiation between opponents - Friends or Random - is a little more pronounced than in Classic Mode.
When selecting Friends for Challenge Mode, the player who sends out the invitation selects 7 players from their friends list to begin the game. That player is deducted 1 Energy and immediately spins their 8 questions to lock in their score. The remaining 7 players who were invited have 24 hours from the time of invitation to lock in their scores. When they accept, those players are deducted 1 Energy before being proceeding with their 8 questions.
After 24 hours from the time of invitation, the game is effectively over. If there are invited players who did not respond to the invitation, they are disqualified from the game and no Energy is deducted from them. Once the game is over, Tourivia ranks the players who participated in order of correct answers/time of completion and the Top 3 players are awarded prizes.
When selecting Random for Challenge Mode, the player who sends out the invitation opens a game lobby for all currently online players to accept. The game lobby is open for 30 seconds and the game will begin afterwards regardless of how many players are present. In the last 3 seconds of the game lobby queue, no more players can enter or leave the game lobby.
After the game begins, the same rules as before apply. All players present in the game are deducted 1 Energy and immediately spin and answer 8 total questions. After all players have locked in their answers, Tourivia ranks the players in order of correct answers/time of completion and the Top 3 players are awarded prizes.
